Born at just 35 weeks gestation, the twin brother and sister each weighed under 2 kilograms at birth, with underdeveloped respiratory functions and weakened immune systems... From the moment they entered the world, they faced one challenge after another, tugging at everyone’s heartstrings.
Fortunately, under the round-the-clock care and meticulous attention of the neonatology team at Guangzhou Fosun Chancheng Hospital (Guangzhou Xinshi Hospital) of Guangdong Pharmaceutical University, the adorable twins embarked on a 22-day journey of warmth and resilience. Eventually, with stable vital signs and reaching the target weight, they successfully bid farewell to their "incubator home" and were safely reunited with their parents, ready to embrace a brand-new journey of growth!

Twin Angels: An Early Arrival
In late December 2025, the twin angels, at just 35 weeks gestation, couldn’t wait to meet their parents. While it was initially assumed that being close to full term might not pose significant issues, the reality was different.
These premature babies not only fell short of the standard weight (the brother weighing 1.75 kg and the sister 1.85 kg) but also had underdeveloped organ systems, leaving them vulnerable to various risks. The hospital’s obstetrics department quickly coordinated with the neonatology unit, safely transferring the babies to the NICU in a neonatal transport incubator.
Professional Care: Overcoming the Challenges
During their stay in the NICU, the pediatric medical team provided 24/7 dynamic monitoring, assessing vital signs, feeding progress, and growth indicators daily. Treatment plans were adjusted promptly based on bedside examinations. The nursing team stepped in as "temporary mothers," documenting every feeding and bowel movement, providing oral and eye care, and offering developmental support with the utmost patience and attention to detail—every step carried out gently, meticulously, and systematically.
"At first, they could only tolerate 5 ml of preterm formula per feeding. By the time of discharge, each baby was able to finish 60 ml of formula in one go, and their weight had increased to 2.5 kg, meeting the discharge criteria!" shared Shen Hongyun, Head Nurse of the Neonatology Department, with heartfelt relief.

22 Days of Care: A Warm Homecoming
To help the babies transition smoothly to life at home, the nursing team provided parents with hands-on guidance before discharge—covering holding positions, feeding techniques, bathing, and how to address common issues—empowering them with confidence.
On the day of discharge, the little ones were full of energy—the brother gazing wide-eyed at the world, and the sister nestled peacefully in her mother’s arms. The parents’ faces radiated happiness: "We are truly grateful to the hospital for taking such good care of our children. From worry to peace of mind—it’s all thanks to your professional care!"

The safe discharge of these twin babies marks another heartwarming achievement of our hospital’s neonatology expertise and service. Moving forward, we remain committed to advancing our medical skills and optimizing care, building a stronger team to protect every newborn and contribute to the health of families and the nation. May these twin siblings thrive in the warmth of love, grow healthily, and embrace a bright future ahead!
